Celebrating 9

We can’t have our oldest son turn 9 and not celebrate it… So we did.

First, we had a big bowling party with a bunch of his friends. Unfortunately Pat got called into work that morning and had to miss it… But, Gabe and his friends still had a lot of fun. 

Next year I’m going to have to make 2 cakes. I’m not excited about that. Also, I’m never using that frosting recipe again. It was way too sweet!!







Then on his actual birthday we had a family party. He picked roast chicken, grilled potatoes and some sort of roasted veggies for his birthday dinner. Um, okay kid. I can get behind that.



Your face when you get a note instead of a present…


And when you realize that the note says that you and Dad get to go on a date in Phoenix to pick out a skateboard.




Then fast forward a week and we have a very happy boy.

Josy is a funny little boy. The things that come out of his mouth are the best. And sometimes he describes things in a really funny way. Yesterday we went on a bike ride and there was a worm on the plastic wind cover, but he kept telling me that there was a worm on the windshield and it took me a while to figure it what he was talking about. I thought he saw a stick on a car’s windshield that we drive past… J: We need to get out our Halloween decorations. M: Oh, we already did. J: Where are they??? M: We don’t have any. So they’re already out. J: We need to get some! M: No. I don’t do anything scary. J: It’s not scary. It’s just a pot. M: What? J: The pot at Home Depot, with the fake blood. We need to get it. M: No J: It does not give me nightmares. The guy with the beak and the goggles, that gave me nightmares. ———— J: It would be cool if my lunchbox had batteries! Then I could play video games! M: That would be weird. J: Not weird. Awesome. Then I could play video games all the time....

A Car Wash

Spring is finally here and it feels so good!! I mean, it still freezes overnight, which makes for sound very cold morning runs, but then it’s warm during the day. In fact, it was so warm, that Gabe wanted to run in the sprinkler. Pat had screwed the sprayer on so tight that I couldn’t get it off, which was the only reason he didn’t… Instead he decided to wash the car. I’m not going to say that the quality of the car wash was the best, but I will not complain about a kid wanting to wash my car. Yesterday there was a sports team doing a car wash fundraiser and I was going to take the car in, but Gabe was proud of his washing job, so we didn’t. I think my car is going to look like this for a while… Then we got dinner at the food trucks and headed home for a fire and s’mores.

A Very Cold Day

We had another round of ski lessons yesterday. Unfortunately, it was cold. Very, very cold. Realistically it was just the wind chill. We would have been fine skiing in the teens, but the wind knocked it down and extra 15 degrees and that was too much. Pat and I took our gear, but decided it was way too cold, so we hung out in the lodge waiting for the boys.  A half hour into the lesson, I got a call from a friend that works up there that Josy was in the office. He’d made it a half hour before deciding that it was too cold to ski. So he hung out in the lodge with us. Gabe made it the whole time and didn’t want to quit to come inside. But Pat told him no and as soon as he came in, he realized that his fingers and ties were numb.  We ate lunch and then headed home. Hopefully the weather will be more pleasant next weekend…
