An Adventure

Image
It was a pretty crazy day around here and Gabe wanted to stay home from school, so the boys and I decided to have a quiet day just us. It was also “a sunny, beautiful day” as Gabe calls it, so we wanted fo have an adventure. We got out to the trailhead...and promptly discovered that the trail was closed. Lovely. But my sweet little boy responded with “I’m sorry that happened Mom” as we looked for another trail to explore. We saw all sorts of fun wandering the trail. Gabe talked nonstop, which was really helpful when he was saying “Oh no, oh no, oh no. If we go to the woods and we see a bear, that would be a big problem.” No, we definitely don’t have to worry about bears with Gabe around... But he found sticks to hit on trees, sticks shaped as numbers, and rocks to throw in the water. I even taught him to play Pooh Sticks. There was a seal, an eagle and plenty of high school kids who should have been in class... And Gabe only got nearly hit by one bike. It was a lot of fun.

It’s Official

It’s official. Josy can roll over. He’s done it a few times over the last few days, but it’s been pretty sporadic. That all changed today. He spent all morning practicing. It was pretty funny actually, watching him figure it out. He’d get frustrated sometimes, but for the most part he was just calm and quiet, slowly trying to get over on his belly. And Gabe would tell him important things, like “Don’t run into the laundry” or steal his bosh so that it could fly on his fire helicopter. I’m not sure that was particularly helpful, but that’s the big brother role, right? After practicing all morning, we spent the afternoon at appointments. (Seriously, one eye doctor appointment, three dentist appointments and a blood draw. It was a fun afternoon...) But this evening he was back at it, rolling over several times. So it’s official. And now I can’t ever leave him on the couch by himself... This actually made me think of the differences between my two sons. Obviously they are diff

His Hands

Image
A couple of weeks ago, I told people that Josy was in the perfect stage. He was alert, but didn’t have the ability to grab at things. Well, that isn’t the case any more! Don’t get me wrong, he’s still absolutely wonderful and I love everything about him, but he has discovered his hands! Putting him on my lap at dinner has suddenly gotten more complicated! This morning he was playing with his lamb all by himself! In other news, he’s loosing his hair so fast that he no longer has his tiny mohawk...

A New Smile

It’s a big day for Bella! The braces are gone! She’s super excited to eat popcorn and chew gum without me complaining at her about it! We might have corn on the cob for dinner just because we can...

Blueberry Muffins

Image
On Monday evening, I took both boys to the  grocery store. We walked down the baking aisle and Gabe saw a blueberry muffin mix and asked if we could make it. I’m not usually an impulse shopper, but I figured why not? I told him we could make the muffins Wednesday night. (And in two days, we’ve only had three “Mom! We forgot to make the muffins!” usually right before bedtime... So tonight, we made blueberry muffins. Well, Gabe actually did most of it. I was impressed... Sure. Eat the paper first. They passed the taste test!

My Silly Gabe...

G: Do we lick bowels? M: Only if they’re full of ice cream. G: You’re joking me! Every morning Gabe watches Blippi when he wakes up and I go back to bed. He’s allowed to watch only Blippi and if another show turns on, he had to turn it off or he looses his Blippi privileges. This morning he came bursting into our bedroom and says "Mommy, did I lose the privilege???" Apparently another show had turned on... Also, what three year old talks like that??? M: Bella is getting her braces off. G: And then she’ll be a mom? M: What? No. Getting your braces off and being a mom are not connected. G: That’s a bummer. We went to the grocery store and Gabe saw one of the driving carts in the parking lot and asked if we could use that cart. I told him that it was wet because of the rain, so he might get wet. His response? "I’ll survive." How old is this child??? Gabe loves his little brother so much. He regularly talks about how "he’s ours forever!" He gets h

Last Weekend...

Image
Last weekend was a little crazy around here. Gabe had an eye appointment, so he and Pat had a special Daddy/Gabe trip for the weekend. Josy and I went to a girls weekend for all of the women on my dad’s side of the family (minus 3...). Bella had school, so she went and stayed with a friend for the weekend. I have no pictures from Bella or Gabe’s weekends, but I can report that they all had a great and Gabe’s eye appointment went well. The doctor actually told us that we can skip next years as long as he can pass a kindergarten eye exam. (Don’t worry, he’s still two years away from kindergarten, but at the rate he’s going, he’ll definitely know enough letters next year to be able to take the test.) I do have pictures from my trip though! :) Friday morning, Josy and I got up nice and early and flew to Seattle. With Pat gone, Gram and Gramps gone and all of my friends catching the ferry that morning for the big race, I got to get Josy, his carseat and the suitcase all by myself from G
