A First Grader

Image
Today was Gabe’s last day of kindergarten. We now officially have a first grader. Someone please tell me how that’s possible??? Last night was his kindergarten program. The kids sang songs and recited Bible passages and got their diplomas. It was adorable. Unfortunately, all of my pictures involve other kids, so you’re just going to have to trust me that they were cute… This morning, I asked Gabe what he wanted for breakfast because it was his last breakfast as a kindergarten and he told me he wanted a ham sandwich. Um, okay? So I made him a ham sandwich. Yesterday he’d asked if he could ride his bike to school and we didn’t plan ahead far enough to make it work then. So today we did. I pushed the jogging stroller with his backpack in it on the way to school, and his bike on the way back. I’m sure I looked ridiculous, but that’s what we do for our kids, right? And now he’s a first grader and I have no idea how that’s possible.

Class Trip

Gabe’s class has a field trip to the beach  and seeing as it was a sunny, beautiful day and I haven’t been to any of his field trips yet, I decided to join them. Josy came too. Josy was super excited to go to kindergarten. He marched right in and started playing with the toys. There were a couple of other little brothers there, but they were all a little overwhelmed. Definitely not Josy… We all packed up and headed to the beach. We saw a couple of deer on the way and Gabe insisted that I take a picture. Thank goodness we were on a quiet road… When we got here, we played with magnetic sand, flew kites and played with bubbles. The weather was perfect, the kids were having fun, and it was a great way to spend the morning. Then we drove back to school and I dropped off the kid that I was driving. As we drive off, Josy burst into tears because “Me go kin-garten!!”  Apparently he had fun. And it’s a good thing that we only have one more week of school because I have a feeling that s...

Mother’s Day

Image
Last Friday, I opened the door to Josy yelling “Happy Muvers Day!” Then he gave me a beautiful beaded bracelet (which he tried all weekend to get back from me) and this beautiful card. It might be my favorite Mother’s Day card ever. Gabe desperately wanted me to open his present early, but I made him wait until Sunday. He made me a vase with a fake flower that Freddy has spent the last week trying to steal. He also included this gem… The rest of the day was pretty mellow, but it was really nice. Josy and I went flower shopping. Then Gabe and I planted them. Then he and I went on a run/bike ride around the block. It was a lovely day.

Starting off with a Bang…

Well, we got back from our trip and the next morning Bella fell down the stairs and broke her foot. So that instantly flipped out entire week upside down as we suddenly spent the week at appointments. She also couldn’t ride the bus to school and I had to drop her off and pick her up. Lets just say that getting my hours in at work last week was a little bit complicated… Bella had her spring concert, which she had to do with a boot on. This is what happens when the weather is nice and you play outside all day. You fall asleep on the way to a birthday party…where there will be even more playing. That is definitely how you make Turkish tea… Bella finally got her cast on, so naturally the boys asked the doctor for gloves to play with. Lucy never joins us for snuggle time, so I had to document it. After five days in the hospital, Gramps came home! Josy really likes making me coffee. He’s so helpful… And that has been our last two weeks…

A Quick Trip

The weekend before last, Bella had a doctors appt out of town, so we decided that the whole family could use a weekend away. Also, we couldn’t really leave the boys at home by themselves… We got to go out to dinner with Grammy and Grandpa Jim. Grandpa and Gabe were super excited about their matching jackets. The kids were quite convinced that they would be sleeping all today. Um, no. Not when two of them roll and flair everywhere in their sleep… A quick stop for coffee… Ran into a friend in Target. Uncle Tim was just trying to make breakfast and Josy decided shoot him. We went down to the Wildlife Conservation Center with Uncle Tim. It was pretty cold and wet and windy, but at least we got to see some fun things. On the way home we had a flight delay and the pilot asked if anyone wanted to come up and say hi. Um, yes. Seriously, coolest pilot ever. Also, Josy didn’t sleep a wink on that flight and we didn’t get home until 10. To be fair, I think he had to go to the bathroom and refused...

Today

The last couple of weeks have been brutal, and I’ll get to all of that later. But for now I’ll just talk about today because War one of those days where there’s lots going on and it’s all good, but it makes for a crazy day. I woke up early, because apparently that’s what I do now. And rather than try and keep sleeping, I went on a run. It was lovely. Amazing actually. This is why we live here. When I got back, Gabe was up and already wearing his baseball uniform. To say that he was excited about his first baseball game would be an understatement…  After breakfast we headed to the ball field for Gabe’s first game. It was a pitching machine and they had five pitches before they put the tee out for them. Gabe got a good hit of the machine twice, and one off of the tee. He also got to play second base and catcher. I’m not sure what conversations they were having in the dugout, but while he was in serving, mid-inning, he suddenly yelled “Mom! I need a cup!” I told him that was a convers...
