Fishing
Uncle Dick and Aunt Hilary are in town, so we got to go fishing last night. We didn’t catch anything other than a tomcod, but it was a beautiful night out on the water and we all had fun.
Gramps clearly had his priorities straight.
He needed one lesson on reeling up a pole and that was it.
Gramps snuggles!
Gabe had a herring that he called Fishy. He carried it around for a long time, but then had a terrible dilemma because he really wanted to know if he was a boy or a girl, but he didn’t want Uncle Dick to cut him open. It was rough.
And this was Bella. The entire trip.
Can you get a more beautiful fishing spot???
We got one tomcod. We were all prepared with the cameras for an eagle to come grab it when we threw it back, but the silly eagle decided to wait until we were a long ways away…
Luckily we had Josy around to swab the deck.
We’re headed back on Sunday. Gabe asked if we could go fishing in the morning and I told him yes. He got super excited because “that means we get donuts!!”
Gabe threw me off. He hasn’t been fishing in two years, but he still remembers all sorts of very specific details from last time. On our way out, he asked Dick why how he steered the boat while sitting on the back holding “that red thing.” How does he remember that??? Also, all of his pirate knowledge comes in handy on the boat. We were teasing about tying him to the ladder with a rope so that he wouldn’t fall off. His response? “You mean, like a rigging?” He also kept yelling “Cap! How’s it going on the lower deck?” and referred to Aunt Hilary as the Cabin Girl.
Josy thought the boat was wonderful. There were so many things to play with that he had endless entertainment. He would walk up to the poles and just start reeling them up. He found the hose and was determined to use it to spray things off. He was even convinced that he should be allowed to cut plugs just like Uncle Dick, so he pulled out the cutting board and knife. Um, no. Sorry kid. No fillet knife for you.
And Bella slept the entire time. But since she’s not a fan of fishing, that didn’t really surprise me…
