Halloween Fun and a Playdate

Saturday, Gabe had a playdate. He actually doesn’t get many of these, mostly because I work and that leaves us with weekends... Plus, he has friends at school so he’s getting plenty of friend time in. Anyway, he had a playdate and it was hilarious. These two boys are actually the same kid. They played with monster trucks, garbage trucks, fire trucks and tools. Everything Gabe loves, this kid had. And then Cori (his mom) and I got to laugh about all of the things that we never thought we’d have to say until we had little boys. For example “Let Gabe play with that hammer and I’ll get you another one.” Also, it was funny to watch Gabe play with another boy that’s at his level. At school he is surrounded by girls. There was another boy almost a year older than him that left for the preschool room shortly after Gabe got to the toddler room. And now there are three other boys in the toddler room, but they’re all much younger. One of them just moved over from the baby room last month. So they’re definitely not on the same level. And Gabe loves playing with Bryson, but he is 9 months younger and that age gap is still pretty obvious. But this kid is only three months older than Gabe (although a complete head taller...) and they were on the same level developmentally. Watching them play was a lot of fun.

Anyway, after awhile, we went to a Halloween party at the mall, which was full of games and kids in costumes. There was even another Blippi, which was crazy!

The boys tried once again to convince us that they are the same kid. One would lay on the floor so the other one would lay on the floor. One would dramatically bang on the window, so the other one would too.

Also, note the size difference. At every game, they would tell Gabe to move up to the front to play, but made the other kid stand in the back (until he did one throw and they realized he needed to be up front too...).

Eventually we had to go home and take a nap. Funny how that always ruins the fun, but makes you significantly more pleasant as a person...

Saturday night we carved a pumpkin. Now, Bella and I have been carving pumpkins for years and I think she was nine before she was willing to actually touch the pumpkin. Um, that is not the case with Gabe. He was all in!

I didn’t let him use the knife to actually do the carving (which he wasn’t happy about...), but he did all of the cleaning out. And I think our pumpkin turned out cute!

Too bad I packed all of our tealights, so this is a birthday candle that I promptly blew out after the picture. Living in a half packed house is a pain...
