Bad Guys!

Image
I got to mention the bad guys in my last post! Gabe’s jacket is a pullover fleece jacket and when he puts it on, if his shirt sleeves ride up, then he gets upset because “I look like a bad guy!” I have no idea where that came from, but it’s been going on for a couple of months. At least we’re now to the point where he doesn’t cry, he just says “Bad guys!” and we know to fix his sleeves. Silly child. Yesterday we were driving past the retaining wall and talking about walls and he said “Mom! Wall starts with walrus!” I’m really not trying to teach him to read. I’m not! And then there’s this guy who is just way too cute for words... No, he doesn’t have teeth. Those are spit bubbles.

Gabe and his Balloons

A couple of weeks ago, the lady that owns the daycare had a red balloon. Gabe wanted it, and I forget exactly what happened, but she told him that she would put balloons on the grocery list and get him a red balloon. The next day he marched up to her desk and asked where his red balloon was. She told him that they were still on the list, but she would get it. This has now gone on nearly daily. This morning Gabe was standing outside the door looking into school while I was getting Josy out of the car and he suddenly started yelling “I see my name!!!” When we walked in, there was a full garbage bag hanging from the ceiling with a red string hanging down and a big sign that said “Gabe! Pull my string” He pulled the string and out dropped six red balloons. He was jumping up and down he was so excited! It was adorable! In other news, this kid says so much funny stuff that I really need to write it all down. Here’s what I can remember... The other day he told me that he wanted to have a Mons

Josy...

Image
A few cute pictures from the week. Josy is mostly better, but he’s still kindof a cranky pants. Objectively, he’s not that cranky, but since he’s normally just a chill, happy little guy, any crankiness is weird. We also think the teeth are on their way in, so that adds to the fun... School sent this to me. He fell asleep like that... Proof that Josy is moving all over the place. In about 20 minutes, we went from this... ...to this... ...to this. We’re going to have to baby proof this house really soon... And just because it’s cute... Did I mention that when I took Josiah in for his 4 month appt he weighed 14lbs 2oz? They weighed Gabe too. 24lbs. Anyone want to take bets on when Josy will pass him up???

Pumpkin Carving

Image
Since Halloween is next week, we decided to carve pumpkins. I know that a lot of people do these super awesome elaborate pumpkins and that’s just not ke. Every pumpkin I’ve ever carved looks basically the same: eyes, a nose, and a smile with a tooth. But Gabe told me he wanted a doggie pumpkin. I told him he was going overboard on my pumpkin carving skills, so he decided he wanted Buzz Lightyear. Um, no. But google is amazing and I found a picture of a dog that I thought I could do and we got started. Josy was not having it. At all. I ended up carving like this... Too bad you can’t hear him sobbing on my lap... Then I remembered all of those cute pictures of babies in pumpkins and I realized that this was our only year to do it. So we stripped him down and put him in the pumpkin. He was not impressed. By the time we were done, both boys needed a bath. Josy was done with life and needed to go to bed. Pat had finished making dinner and Gabe took his jolly sweet time eating it, so there w

Our Week...

Image
It’s been a pretty quiet week over here. Josy managed to get a cold. It’s not too bad, in that his nose isn’t pouring, but he’s crazy congested. And that means that he isn’t sleeping. He’s consistently getting up to eat at 1, 3 and 5 every morning, which isn’t particularly fun... And he’s had a couple of evenings of crying uncontrollably, so maybe quiet isn’t the best description of our week... But other than that he’s happy and the doctor says that he doesn’t have an ear infection, so we just get to ride this one out and hope that eventually he starts sleeping again... In other news, Gabe had gymnastics yesterday. Usually Pat takes him, but I did yesterday. I was totally impressed! It’s the first time that he’s been the most focused kid there! To be fair, it’s the start of a new session and all of the big kids got moved to another class and there are a whole bunch of new littler kids who have no idea what they’re doing. But still. He was strong and focused and showed all the kids the

Fall Leaves

Image
I struggle with fall decor. I’d like to decorate my house for the season, but most of it is Halloween-scary and I don’t do scary. This is also why my kids may not wear scary Halloween costumes and I don’t care what their friends think about that. Anyway... This means that for fall decorations my options are limited to pumpkins, harvest and leaves. A couple of years ago, Bella amd I started collecting leaves every year and making stained glass leave pictures for the windows. We did it every year until last year when our house was on the market and I was pretty sure that if the realtor was going to make us take down family pictures from the walls, she wasn’t going to thrilled with the leaf project... This year I decided that Gabe was probably ready, so Tuesday, when we were all home because Josy was sick, we walked around the neighborhood collected pretty leaves. We washed them, dried them, and pressed them in the biggest books I could fine, which in this case was Harry Potter, since Pat

Catching Up...

Image
As if it’s not bad enough that Josy is sitting in a bumbo chewing on toys (or a sock, like he was doing tonight...), today we pulled out the jumper. He loves it!  I know that’s not a huge smile, but he stayed there and jumped around for a long time. Then this evening he was on his play mat and scooted himself around 270 degrees and at one point actually got his bottom in the air, pushing up on his toes. I’m definitely not ready for this... He’s definitely discovered himself in the mirror. He smiles and spits and makes noise at the little boy that stares back at him. He loves school. He grins at the other kids and even got to go on a stroller ride. Everyone there things he’s pretty wonderful too. Gabe has a book that’s full of pictures and asks questions like “what kind of pet would you like to have?”and then has a giant page of piles of animals to pick from. Gabe pulled it out for Josy the other day before school and started asking him all of the questions. I’m not sure Josy did a good

Too Big!

Image
Could someone please have a chat with my son and tell him that he’s getting too big! This is craziness! There’s no way he should be sitting-up-like-a-big-boy-eating-toys big! Nope. He is my little baby and he needs to understand that, not keep getting bigger and bigger.

A Bumbo

Image
I did not get rid of any of Gabe’s baby stuff. I figured that I didn’t know what the future held and on the off chance that we ended up having another baby, I didn’t want to have to get a bunch more stuff all over again. The only thing I got rid of was the bumbo seat.  I actually don’t know why I got rid of the bumbo when I wouldn’t get rid of anything else, but for whatever reason, I did. And to be fair, Gabe never liked it and the cat attacked it, so maybe that was part of it? Anyway, now Josy is at the perfect bumbo age and we don’t have one, so last night I took the boys to the consignment shop and found a bumbo. While there, Gabe found a firetruck transformer. Gabe was pretty sure that he needed it, but I told him no since I actually try not to buy him toys given the fact that the kid has more than enough right now. But then he gave me his puppy dog eyes and a woeful “Please?” and I remembered his dollar. When we were in Arizona, we went to Dairy Queen one night and met this older

Sweet Dreams

Image
This is how I found Josy sleeping tonight. How cute is he??? Also apparently school is exhausting. The poor kid went to bed at 7pm and I finally woke him up at 10:45 this morning. He did wake up a couple of times to eat, but still. Then he took a 3 hour nap this afternoon and was asleep again by 7:45. Apparently his week of 20 minute naps caught up with him???

4 Months

Image
Somehow Josiah is 4 months old. I have no idea how that happened... He continues to be a chill, happy little guy, with a smile for pretty much everyone, often accompanied by a piercing shriek of joy. He has definitely figured out rolling and the rolling/scooting combination means that he no longer stays where I put him, which is unfortunate as I’m not actually looking forward to the mobile baby stage... He’s up to 14lbs 2oz today, which is double his birthweight, and this afternoon he discovered that he has toes. Also, the dark baby hair is a definitely gone. Now we just get to wait and see what grows back... He’s pretty much the best and we love him so much!!!

A Big Day

Image
It was a big day around here. After 4.5 months home, I went back to work today and Josy went to school for the very first time! He did great! He even slept for a bit, which they told me doesn’t usually happen on a kid’s first day of school. And he was a pretty chill little guy and they all loved him!
