A Run to the Park

Image
Since no one in the house was sick and I was going stir crazy, we decided to get out of the house. I wanted to get a run in, so we decided that the best thing to do was to run to the park to play, and then run back.  The way there was great. As obnoxious as it is to run while pushing a double stroller, I felt good and had a pretty good time. (Oh, and Gabe asked if we could visit the cemetery when we ran past, but he doesn’t remember what it’s called and asked if we could visit the military... I refuse to correct him!) We had the park to ourselves, which was good as Gabe was in quarantine (but also definitely not sick...). Also, both boys wanted me to push them on two different toys, so I got a little extra running in, back and forth between the two. Gabe then decided that he wanted to sneak up on a duck and catch it. I think he wanted to bring it home? Thankfully he is not as sneaky as he thinks he is... He ended up just collecting feathers, which are now among his prized possessions a

Taking selfies is much more difficult now that Josy has figured out how to be the center of attention...

The Last Three Weeks

Image
I have been home the majority of the last three weeks. The Tuesday after Labor Day, daycare called me and said that both boys had a fever. I took them home and they were fine. Neither one seemed sick in the least, but daycare rules meant that I had to keep them home for three days. I got to take them back on Friday. On Saturday Pat left to go moose hunting for a week. Thursday morning I had been at work for 15 minutes when school called to tell me that Gabe had a fever. I took both boys home and while he was slightly more emotional than normal, my thermometer never did say that he had a fever. Nonetheless, he was out of school for three days. Two days later, I had a sore throat. I consulted with my public health nurse friend and she told me that was covid-test worthy, so I got a covid test while Pat (finally!) came home. On Tuesday Josy was starting to get a runny nose, so I called daycare to find out what the policy on runny noses was. She told me that he needed a negative test if he

Puddle Jumping

Image
Somehow, this little guy is big enough to be stomping around in puddles. I’m not okay with this. He was supposed to be my baby forever and this is definitely not baby behavior. This is big boy behavior. But he did come running to me because he was scared of the mailman, so clearly he’s not completely grown up...

A Week of Sun

Image
We’ve had a pretty crazy week around here. The weather was beautiful and sometimes it’s hard to balance getting out and enjoying all the fun things but also doing things like sleeping and laundry. Plus, definitely revolves around naptime, so there’s that. On Sunday, by the time that everyone was up from their naps, we had very little time left to enjoy the sunshine, so we hiked a little way down a trail that I haven’t been on in a a very long time. We didn’t make it very far, but I didn’t expect us to, given the fact that it was beautiful but definitely cold. Also, certainly people were very hungry because I told them to grab a snack and they packed for Pringles and then couldn’t figure out why they were still hungry. Also, Gabe informed me that we didn’t have cell service (we did) “because of the wildness.” We decided to have pirate dinner with Kelly. Basically, we just dressed up like pirates and ate dinner, but Gabe was super excited to carry his pirate flag around. He decided to he

A New Toy

Image
Last week a friend from church asked me if the boys would be interested in a car that her granddaughter had played with at her house while she was up visiting. I almost said no. It’s big. And noisy. And I just wasn’t sure if we needed it. I’m so glad that I said yes. The boys love it! They have played with it constantly for the last week. It’s the first toy that they both love. they actually fight over it, but in a funny way. One of them will be playing in it and the other one will try and sneak in and sit on the other one lap so they can drive. Seriously they both try that move and it’s hilarious!  Eventually I’ll get tired of the noise and move it upstairs to Josy’s bedroom but for right now, it’s great. Plus, we have a little extra space in the living room because I got rid of the jumper this week since Josy is definitely too big for it. My baby needs to stop growing up...

Gabe’s Artwork

Image
Gabe’s been coming home from school with some really fun artwork. Clearly he has a favorite thing in his life... But I’m really impressed with how his art skills are coming along. A spyglass: “Me, driving a pirate ship”: An island that has pirate treasure and a chest full of gold, along with a tree: A pirate. If you look closely, you’ll see a pirate hat, an eye patch, his other eye, and two pirate swords: And a no parking sign:

Random Photos of the Last Few Weeks

What a weird world we live in, where Gabe is putting masks on his stuffed animals. As a side note, my cousin’s daughter gave him this doggie and he’s definitely now one of the special guys. He’s Timmy’s Daddy, and has been named Timmy Jr. I don’t remember what he was supposed to be doing, either making sure Josy didn’t get his head underwater or didn’t splash or something. Either way, I think he got distracted and he definitely won’t be in charge of keeping an eye on Josy is the tub... Gabe was snuggled on my lap with Timmy and it felt so much like all those months where we’d sit and snuggle for hours. I’m so glad that he still loves to snuggle. This one is getting coordinated enough to do things like walking and drinking water at the same time. He’s getting so big!!! A sunny day meant animal crackers in the front yard, like we did every day at the beginning of quarantine. Also, their outfits matched and it was super cute!! He figured out how to drop his toy into my coffee so he could
