A Weekend with Josy

This weekend, Josy and I got to have a special Mommy-Josy weekend. Gabe had an appointment with the eye specialist, so he and Pat decided to spend the weekend visiting Grammy and Grandpa Jim, as well as going to the appointment. So it was just Josy and I at home.

Pat picked up Gabe from school at lunch on Friday, which meant that Gabe had to say goodbye to Josy at school. He actually followed Josy into the toddler room in order to give him a big hug, and he got Blippi doggy, his special nap stuffed animal, and gave him to Josy to use at his naptime.

There was a women’s retreat at church and I figured that I was going to miss it, since taking a toddler to a retreat kindof kills the entire purpose of going. But a friend volunteered her husband to babysit and Josy had a great time hanging out with some friends. The retreat was amazing and I’m really glad that I got to go, even though it means that I missed out on a bit of our special weekend just the two of us. We just had to make up for it the rest of the time...

Saturday morning, I was trying to hurry and get us out the door. I microwaved some frozen pancakes, threw them on the plate for them and handed him the plate, while running off to keep getting things ready. A couple minutes later, Josy found me in the kitchen, holding his plate with untouched pancakes. I was naturally frustrated that he hadn’t started eating and I asked him what the matter was. He dramatically blowed on his pancakes. I touched them and determined that they definitely were too hot and blew on them for him. Silly kid doesn’t talk much, but he definitely can communicate.

After naptime in Saturday, we decided to go for a walk. We were going to play at the park, but apparently Josy was cold because he just stood there. So we went home. But it worked out great because the neighbor (who happens to be a fireman) was home for lunch and brought his firetruck. Josy was thrilled!

Sunday morning, we had some pre-church snuggles.

Then the silly kid decided to run and hide when I tried to put his coat on him. Apparently I couldn’t see him there?

He did great at church. I’m not sure why he needed to hold his pant leg up, but he did that for a very long time. He also charmed all the people around us, but that’s nothing new.

Then we decided to go to a park that we’ve never played at before. It was a great park and we’re going to need to go back there again, once the snow has melted a bit more. Gabe would love it too.

After playing for awhile, we decided to get some waffles for lunch.

Josy was super proud of himself for walking all the way to the car with his water cup. He even figured out how to hold it in one hand so he could hold my hand and get up the stairs. So I let him hold it in the carseat. I figured that he’d probably spill it all over himself, but we were headed home, so it was fine. As soon as we pulled out of the parking lot, he started crying. I figured that he’d spoiled it all over himself or poked himself with the straw, so I didn’t worry about it too much, but he cried the whole way home. It was unlike him, but I just figured he was tired and wet. Um, no. When we got home, I discovered that he’d taken the straw out and stuck his thumb in the hole and it was stuck in the plastic teeth. Poor baby! And getting that  thumb out was way harder than it should have been and I had to break the cup in order to rescue him.

What I did not notice was that Lucy decided to jump in the car in the middle of the thumb drama and got locked inside. I spent most of the evening trying to figure out where she was and I couldn’t find her. It wasn’t until I woke up a few minutes before my alarm this morning that I realized that she could be in there. I ended up outside in my jammies to check on her. Yep, she was in the car. Needless to say, she headed straight for the litterbox when I let her out and I am very thankful that she chose to hold it while locked inside...

We’ve had Christmas lights up on the walls and the beam since Christmas. Since it’s so dark this time of year, it’s nice to have a bit more light and festivity around. But since it’s March, I decided that it was time to take them down. I figured that Josy would want to help me. Um, no. He was rather distressed that the lights were coming down and kept trying to put them back up. Apparently I should have done it at naptime...

This is Josy, ready for school this morning, with all the important things in life: his lunchbox, his new boots and Blippi doggy.

Pat and Gabe are headed home now, so our special Mommy-Josy weekend is over. But we had a great time. I love spending time with my littlest little guy.
