Josy’s Birthday

Image
Today is Josy’s birthday. How on earth is he three also? It seems like he was just a little tiny baby and more he’s a potty trained preschooler.  We’ve only been here three days, but so far it’s rained every day. No worries, we’re still determined to make the best of it, so we decided to go swim in the cenotes this morning. We figured that Josy would like that and we could do that regardless of the weather. Um, things didn’t go as planned… First of all, the boys didn’t go to sleep last night, so they were very tired this morning. That did not help. But we got in the van and got to the cenotes and started the tour and it was great, right until we got in the cave and started into the water off the first cenote. Then Gabe started panicking, demanding that we go back to the hotel right now. Josy started screaming that it was cold. So we’re swimming through an underground river, inside a cavern with six other people and the boys were both screaming bloody murder. Lets just say that we were

Vacation

As I write this, I’m sitting in a lovely condo in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.  We needed a break. The last month or so has been brutal. There’s been a lot of stuff going on. In a three week time period, we managed to have six major crisis in our extended family ranging from broken bones to unexpected deaths. That didn’t even include normal end-of-the-schoolyear things. Luckily, we had a vacation already scheduled because we needed it… We left Bella at home. We determined that she doesn’t enjoy family vacations anyway, and she was perfectly happy to have a week to hang out with a friend and another week with her cousins. So it’s just the three boys and me. Actually, I thought we brought Josy. Apparently we just brought Blanket… It was a long day of flying. And we had crazy layovers and got some reason ended up in North Carolina on the way, but we made it. We finally landed in Cancun 24 hours after leaving our house. Then we had an hour on the bus to get to Playa del Carmen. We got lunch a

I have managed to get some super cute pictures of this little guy lately. He looks so old in this one!! Baseball games are super exciting…. …but at least they have snacks! His insisted on Blanket watch the end of session. The neighbor kid was washing his boat, so Josy decided to help. His version of a shoe phone? He’s growing up so fast. I can’t believe that he’s almost three…

A Morning Hike

Image
Gabe has been asking to go on a hike. I’m pretty sure he wanted to go to the top of a mountain, but that seemed a little too intense for us. So instead we hiked to the glacier, which was a 3.5 mile loop, and that was perfect. The first thing that happened was that Gabe picked up a vole. I’m impressed he even saw it, much less picked it up, so it may have been on his death bed. But he was excited about it. We found this amazing root was. Josy was actually the one who spotted it. You can’t see the glacier anymore from the lookout. It’s a little sad. Josy was very proud of himself for finding a sign with ABCs on it. He was even more proud of Daddy for reading it. “Good job counting ABCs Dada!” Getting a group picture was pretty much impossible. But we had a good time. And Gabe made it the whole way. I was really impressed with him.  It was a good way to spend the morning.
