Australia: Day 1

Last spring, Pat and I were trying to figure out where to go on our November vacation and we found some really cheap tickets to Sydney. They were so cheap that we may have just bought them on the spot…

Then we decided that it would be super fun to surprise the boys and not tell them for as long as possible.

It’s been a really hard secret to keep. Two weeks ago we told the boys that we were going on vacation, but we did not tell them where. It’s been torturing Gabe. He’s been desperately trying to figure it out, but he felt like our clues of “they have birds there” were less than helpful.

Saturday morning we started flying. We made it all the way to LAX before we’re finally told then. It took Gabe a bit to wrap his head around it, but then he got super excited.

It was a crazy long flight from LAX to Sydney. But the boys did great. They both had ladies on the other side of them that were super impressed that they were so calm and quiet. I think they were tired (so they slept a lot!) and were just super excited to get to watch lots of movies.

And then we made it to Australia!!

We were still too early to get into the airbnb, even though we were all desperate for a shower and a nap, so we settled for some coffee and pastries. Then we dropped off our luggage and headed to the Opera House.

We found the Sydney Bridge on our way.

Then we wandered the Royal Botanical Gardens.

We got some lunch.

And then we made our way to our Airbnb, which has the best views of any airbnb I’ve ever stayed at.

Pat gave in to the jet lag, so the boys and I went to get ice cream. Then we all went to bed very early. Before we went to bed, Gabe informed me that “Day 1 was awesome! I can’t wait for Day 2!”
