His First Food...

Image
This part of Thanksgiving was so funny that it gets it’s own post... Since Josy will be six months old this weekend (let’s not even discuss how crazy it is that he’s been around for half of a year...), he gets to start eating solid food. Well, what better time to start than Thanksgiving! So, after staring at our food for the entire meal and trying to grab my plate, Pat gave him some mashed potatoes.

Thanksgiving!!

Image
We started out our Thanksgiving Day with something new: Gabe and I ran the Turkey Trot! It was actually his first race ever and he did really good. It was super cold, which was hard, but he got hand warmers that we put in his gloves and that definitely helped. I also thought the race started at 9, not 9:30, so we were there very early. We actually sat in the car for awhile trying to keep warm... When the race started, we took off running. Gabe didn’t last a long time running until we walked for awhile. I told him to just say the word when he wanted to run again. Apparently he took that literally because a few minutes later he suddenly yelled “RUN!” and took off. He ran for a bit before yelling “WALK!” By the time we got near the turnaround point, he was definitely getting cold. At one point he told me that “I’m walking really slow because I’m cold.” So once we got around the turnaround cone, I put him on my back and we ran the half mile to the end. I’m pretty sure there’s where my work

Big News for Josy

Image
In the middle of poor Josy being sick, we decided to move him into his crib in his own room. I’m actually not quite sure now it happened. Pat brought up the fact that it was time to move him, then we noticed that when he turned in the bassinet his head was sticking through the mesh because he couldn’t fit and then suddenly he’s going to bed in his own bed. I don’t actually remember consciously agreeing to it, it just happened. And then yesterday Pat packed up the bassinet and just like that we have our bedroom to ourselves again. It’s weird. And really, Josy still ends up in our bed in the middle of the night, so not much has really changed... In other news, he can now sit up. He’s not completely stable and I don’t trust him enough to leave him when someone isn’t right there, but he’s pretty much got it. He’s also developed a fake cough that he feels the need to use all the time. Given how much I coughed while I was pregnant with him, lets hope he doesn’t get think coughing is a normal

My Poor Sick Josy

Image
Poor Josy has had a rough few weeks. He is definitely teething. He chews on everything and he leaves piles of drool everywhere he goes. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of these days I fall over because I slipped on a puddle of drool. Then a couple of weeks ago he got a cold and instantly stopped sleeping since he couldn’t breath. That was finally getting better when he got an ear infection. We fought that all of last week and then this week he’s got Hand Foot and Mouth. It been a rough month for the poor kid. He and I are home from school this week so at least we’re getting in a lot of snuggles. He doesn’t nap on my chest much anymore... Oh and then last week Gabe fell at school and bit through his lip with his two front teeth. He had a nasty W shaped cut on his lip, which is finally healing. His teeth have hurting him too. The dentist said that he may have killed his one tooth, but it hasn’t turned grey yet. Maybe not? Anyway, he’s been having trouble eating because it’s hard to eat wh

The Things That Come Out of His Mouth...

I asked Gabe to unpack his suitcase... G: I want you to help me. M: Okay, can you phrase that a different way? G: Mom, I don’t want to do it and I don’t feel like it and I want a grownup to do it by themselves. Needless to say, that did not go the way he wanted it to... —————- Gram sent Gabe a picture of Gramps with a cannon yesterday. This morning we were driving to school: G: Was Gramps going to shoot someone with the cannon? M: No, that cannon was actually used to fight the British in the Revolutionary War. G: What? Talk louder so I can hear you. M: The cannon was used to fight the British in the Revolutionary War. G: Were we fighting the bad guys? M: We thought we were, but they weren’t really bad guys. It was just a big disagreement. G: Like we went to England when I was a baby? M: Yes, but British people aren’t bad guys. G: Was Gramps fighting the British? All I could think was “please don’t tell your British friend that she’s a bad guy...” G: What is a space ranger? M: It’s like

Change of Plans

Friday morning, we all got up excited to fly to Cannon Beach for the weekend with all of my college girlfriends. The flight wasn’t until 1, so we spent the morning packing and headed to the airport at 11:30. We checked our bags and went through security, no problem. But then we looked out the window to this: No flights were getting in. Eventually they told us our flight was circling, trying to get in, so we got some lunch and Gabe entertained everyone around us trying to eat a piece of pizza bigger than his head... Seriously, I thought he was just a kid eating a piece of pizza, but a lady came up to me and told me how funny it was... At about 2, they sent the flight to Seattle and told us the flight was postponed until 5:30. This meant we would miss our connecting flights so we headed downstairs to join the giant line to rebook. But then the baggage lady called me and offered to rebook us. She got us new boarding passes and retagged our bags and told us to just head over to the main co

Maggie

Aunt Jan (or Grandma Jan as she is often called) got a new puppy. So naturally, we had to take the boys to meet her. She is adorable! Aunt Jan gave Gabe a long list of things he needed to do to not freak Maggie out and he did them all perfectly. He was super quiet, he sat on the floor, he let her smell him and lick him without trying to pet her. Basically he did as good as you can possibly expect a three-year-old to do. Then Josy woke up and wanted to meet Maggie too. Luckily he did not manage to grab and ear or something. I think that would have freaked them both out... Plus, then Aunt Jan took some super cute Josy pictures...

5 Months

Image
In all of the Halloween excitement, I forgot to post that Josiah is officially 5 months old. I have no idea how that happened. This kid is growing up far too fast... This month he has mastered flying like Superman and spends most of his time of the floor flying or just seeing how high he can get his chest off the floor. Between rolling and spinning, it’s not going to long before he’s actually mobile, which I’m not looking forward to. Every time I pick him up he’s sitting in a pile of drool, so between that and the fact that he insists on chewing on everything, I think that he’s trying to get a tooth, but we’ll see on that one. He’s still quite convinced that I should feed him table food, but I keep telling him that he has to wait just a bit longer, an answer he doesn’t like. He had his first cold this month, but other than not being able to sleep because he can’t breath, you’d never know he was sick. He’s still just as happy as ever. “Help me Spiderman! You’re the only one that can sav

Happy Halloween!

Image
Happy Halloween from a Giraffe, Spiderman and an Aviator and Inuyasha! Josy is wearing the same costume that Gabe wore when for his first Halloween. Gabe decided that he wanted to be Spiderman. But when I went to the store to get the costume, I found the Aviator costume and I decided that would be much cuter. I wasn’t sure if we could convince him to be an Aviator, so I bought both, just in case. Then Pat and I started talking about aviators and the boys watched a bunch of youtube clips about aviators and WWII bombers. We’d be in the middle of a completely unrelated conversation when suddenly Gabe would say “What are the really old pilots called?” Finally we asked if he wanted to be an aviator for Halloween and he said no because “I’m not old.” As a last ditch effort, we showed him the custume. That was it. He thought it was so wonderful that he put it on and declared that it was the best and that’s what he wanted to be for Halloween. But then he asked about the Spiderman costume and w
