Change of Plans

Friday morning, we all got up excited to fly to Cannon Beach for the weekend with all of my college girlfriends. The flight wasn’t until 1, so we spent the morning packing and headed to the airport at 11:30. We checked our bags and went through security, no problem. But then we looked out the window to this:

No flights were getting in. Eventually they told us our flight was circling, trying to get in, so we got some lunch and Gabe entertained everyone around us trying to eat a piece of pizza bigger than his head...

Seriously, I thought he was just a kid eating a piece of pizza, but a lady came up to me and told me how funny it was...

At about 2, they sent the flight to Seattle and told us the flight was postponed until 5:30. This meant we would miss our connecting flights so we headed downstairs to join the giant line to rebook. But then the baggage lady called me and offered to rebook us. She got us new boarding passes and retagged our bags and told us to just head over to the main counter and drop them in the corner. I dropped the bags off and then the lady standing there told me that the tags weren’t good and she proceeded to retag them again.

By this point, we didn’t really have enough time to go home, so we went to the other end of the airport to sit and wait. I finally got Josiah to sleep...just in time for the plane to get delayed until 7. We decided that it was silly to sit there when we have a perfectly good house a few minutes away, so we got the carseats and went home. The flight was delayed until 9 by then. Gabe, Josy and I all got naps in, which drastically helped our moods... At 5 they finally canceled the whole flight.

I called to rebook, hoping that they could get us out early Saturday morning, but none of those flights had seats. Our only option was the exact same flights we were on that day so we’d lose an entire 24 hours of our trip. For a three day trip, it just wasn’t worth it for basically one day at the coast with my girlfriends. So we can canceled the trip. No one was happy about it, but there was nothing we could do about it.

So we went out to dinner and then to froyo. We let Gabe pick the place, since he was super upset to not go on the trip. He refused to unpack his backpack so it’s ready for the trip, which is a little awkward as nothing is rescheduled quite yet...

This is his “ice cream face.”

We ended up having a quiet, low-key weekend, which was nice, particularly since Josy completely quit sleeping this weekend, but that’s a different story. We were able to go to a couple of birthday parties that we weren’t planning on and Gabe got to try rock climbing for the first time. He climbed the rope at gymnastics class and a friend gave us a copy of Chutes and Ladders.

It was a good weekend. It just definitely was not what we’d planned.
