LA Part 2
Tuesday we checked out of the hotel and met Uncle Matt and Auntie Rachael for breakfast. We also met Asta, which was about as exciting for him as getting to meet an LAPD officer, who gave him a sticker. He had a pretty great breakfast...
After breakfast we went to the Noah’s Ark exhibit at the Skirball Center. It was incredible! It’s hard to explain, but it was an entire Noah’s ark play area where each of the animals was made out of reused materials and you could play with all of it. There were treehouses to climb, storms to create, puppets, giant animals to manipulate and supposedly a rainbow, but we showed up on the wrong day for that. It was a lot of fun.
After Skirball, we went and got a very late lunch and then wandered West Hollywood for awhile, before getting ice cream and saying goodbye to Matt and Rachael. Then we started driving...
The traffic is terrible in LA. Everyone knows this. We knew this also, but in order to drive back to Phoenix, we had to actually brave the traffic to do it. We left at 6 and it was not fun. It took us almost 45 minutes just to get to the freeway... After two hours of driving we decided that we needed to feed poor Josy who had screamed for about an hour now. We had gone 25 miles. Something about taking your first driving/feed the baby break before you even get out of town seemed wrong, but bad traffic and a screaming baby was a really bad combination... Once we got going again, though, things got much better. Traffic picked up and both boys fell asleep and we pulled into Phoenix at 2:15am. Needless to say, both boys slept on their clothes that night as changing into jammies at that hour just wasn’t going to happen...
It was a short trip to LA and we spent most of it driving, but it was really great to see Matt and Rachael and their new life in LA. Also, it was 50 degrees cooler and still nice and warm. Totally worth it.
