Big Brother Love

Gabe adores his little brother.  Getting a baby brother was pretty much the best thing that could have happened to him.  He is so very sweet when taking care of Josy and he never wants to see Josy hurt, ever.  He gets upset when Josy has to get a shot at the doctors office and last time he refused to even watch because he didn't want to see something sad happen to his baby brother.

That said, he's also four and doesn't really understand that sometimes you can love on him a little too hard, or that his enthusiasm isn't always appreciated.  Last night the boys were playing in the bathroom and they were both standing on the side of the tub banging on it.  (Not actually taking a bath, just playing on the tub.)  Josy can stand there, but he's not very stable.  And when your big brother doesn't understand that, it can make life difficult.  Well, Gabe tried to give Josy a hug and I really do believe that was what he was trying to do.  But when Gabe went in for the hug, Josy just fell over flat on his back like he'd just been tackled.  Needless to say, he instantly burst into tears.

I thought Gabe had tackled him and sent him downstairs immediately while I tried to comfort Josy.  But then he explained that he just wanted to hug him and I felt bad for getting upset.  Josy was still sobbing in my arms and Gabe came up and asked if he could sing him the special song that we always sing when he's upset.  So he held Josy's hand and sang Grumpypants and it actually did make Josy stop crying.

I hope that he always loves and cares for his little brother like he does now.
