Fake Birthday

December birthdays are hard. If someone would have just showed up in April like he was supposed to, my Decembers wouldn’t be nearly as crazy. But he didn’t and as such, on top of all of the normal Christmas craziness, I get to also plan a birthday party for a pretty special almost-7-year-old.

Gabe wanted an army party this year. I’ve gotten really good at pirate parties, so switching themes was hard, but we figured it out. Also, all of the decorations that I’d ordered two weeks ahead of time finally showed up four days after the party, so that required some last minute finagling, but the little army men showed up, so we could work with that.

It was actually a pretty easy party. Each kid brought a nerf gun, we had 1000 bullets and my house instantly turned into a war zone. But they thought it was wonderful.

We moved all of the breakable things around the house out of the way and moved some furniture and just about every just ended up in tears at some point (poor Josy more than once…), but they had a blast. Even Josy.

The piñata was filled with Halloween candy and army men. (The boys have no idea that we took the candy from their trick-or-treating bags…)

Gabe was super excited about his cake, even though one of the army met caught on fire while he was blowing out the candles. We got to have a fun chat about fire safety…

I’d ordered a tank to go on the cake and in retrospect, it’s good that it didn’t show up because I don’t think it would have fit.

If you look closely, you can see where “Burny” was on the cake…

Gabe had a wonderful time, which made the day perfect.

I can’t believe that this kid is 7. How is that even possible???
