Day 1: Barcelona
It took us 30 hours of traveling, but we finally made it to Spain!
Then we boarded our 10.5 hour flight to Frankfurt. Josy was out before the flight even took off.
After a few hours in Frankfurt, we boarded our flight to Barcelona. I have nothing to share about that flight because both Josy and I fell asleep…
Unfortunately, wet ended up having drama finding our Airbnb. The lady gave us the address correctly in Spanish, but when the app autotranslated the instructions, it dropped the street address. So we were wandering around looking for an address without a street. Luckily we found a nice couple who cashed her and happened to be walking right by our house and they got us where we needed to go. The Aurbnb lady felt terrible, but it looks the it really was the translate on the apl the was the problem, not her.
We got image the Barcelona Cathedral. The moment we walked in, all Josy could say was “Wow!”
We took the elevator up to the top and got an amazing view of the whole city.
You can see the Sagrada Familia over Gabe’s shoulder.
We left the cathedral and wandered the Jewish Quarter. We found this church that was hammered by the Spanish civil war.
We got paella for lunch. Gabe was thrilled!!
Then we took the tram up to the fort.
Unfortunately the fort was closed, but we still got to see some cannons and an amazing view of the port.
The we had dinner overlooking the city and the pool where the diving competition at the 92 Olympics was held. Easily the best view I’ve had for dinner.
Then we made our way back to the house where we’re all headed to bed. Hopefully we’ll all get some better sleep tonight!!
We had a 6 hour layover in Seattle. We killed time eating lunch and Gabe wanted to see how long he could plank. He ended up making it 3 minutes. Josy did not…
Then we played on the rocks outside the international arrivals. As we were leaving we found The “Do not play on rocks” sign…

When we landed in Barcelona, Jost was too exhausted to function, so Gabe helped him carry good backpack.

Once we got settled, we got some dinner and then went straight to bed. Unfortunately, jet lag is lame. Gabe was up from 2-6 before he finally got back to sleep. Pat and I both finally admitted that we were awake at 4:30, although I feel also again at 6. Josy was so tired that he slept through jet lag and got a full 10 hours in before we woke him up. Too bad we couldn’t all sleep like that…
We finally all got up and headed to get some breakfast. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a legit cafe con leche.
Then we headed into the Gothic Quarter to find the Cathedral.

We’ve been taking the metro everywhere. The boys love it! I think Josy thinks he can call the train saying “Twain appoaching!” The funny part is the it actually works. I think he may be able to hear some frequency that I can’t…
After siesta, we took the funicular up to Montjuic.
