Day 2: Barcelona

Today was all about Antoní Gaudí!

We started out planning to do to Park Güell. We actually had a whole morning plan, but while we were eating breakfast I decided to double check the map and discovered that I was looking at Palau Güell, not Park Güell, which was in the completely opposite direction. Good thing we discovered that. So we changed the whole plan and headed up to the park. We got off the metro and started walking, when an older lady stopped us and asked if we were going to the park. When we told her yes, she insisted that we take the bus. I’m so glad she did because it was a pretty long walk up a hill and Josy was already complaining that his legs were tired. He was also very excited to take the bus.

We got there just in time for our ticketed entry, so it worked out perfectly.

This park was crazy. Architecture might not be something I generally pay too much attention to, but this was pretty cool.

Pat found this lizard and Gabe insisted on taking a picture of it.

By the time we got through it, we were all warm and out of energy, so we got popsicles. Also, only Gabe was willing to pose for pictures…

Then we headed back down the hill, got some lunch and went home for siesta. Speaking of which, why is the only one who won’t siesta my kid who still naps???

After siesta we’re headed to the Sagrada Familia. Gabe has been so excited about this that he’s been telling everyone. It turns out that none of his 7-year-old buddies care about a random cathedral in a country they’ve never heard of. But he was determined to tell them anyway!

It was amazing. Words cannot do it justice. It’s been under construction for about 140 years and hopefully it’ll be finished sometime in the 2030s.

Pat and Gabe got to go up one of the towers. Josy was too little, so he and I stayed inside and explored some more.

The back side has the entire crucifixion story carved into it.

The whole thing was incredible. I’m so glad that we went.

Then we got dinner and ice cream.

Then we took the subway home. Josy loves the subway. He really does…
