Day 4: Seville

We woke up this morning to rain. I definitely wasn’t expecting that. We made our way to breakfast, but then when the rain didn’t let up we changed our plans and headed to the cathedral. We figured then at least we’d be inside…

However, there was a weird mass going on inside the church. I’m used to mass being one priest, but based on what we could see over peoples heads, there were like 85 people processing down the church. There were also video screens, fancy cameras, bells going constantly and items from the church being carried around. We didn’t make it in the door. So we headed out to find someplace dry and ended up just buying umbrellas.

Eventually the bells at the cathedral stopped, so we figured that mass was over. We hit inside…But were quickly sent to the exit. It was bizarre. Only later did we discover that it was Corpus Christi, a big Catholic holiday, which was why everything was so weird at the cathedral all day…

We ended up buying tickets to the Real Alcazar and then wandered barrio Santa Cruz for a while, killing time while we waited for our ticket time.

We chose not to buy the audio guide, which probably would have been helpful, but given the fact that we’re had two little boys who were ready for a siesta and it was pouring rain, we wouldn’t be able to hear it all anyway. As such, I can’t say too much about all of the details, other than to say that it’s an 800 year old palace, built originally by the Muslims and it’s still the official residence of the king when he’s in town.

The gardens were amazing!!

One of the perks of having an umbrella is that when the rain stops, you can pretend it’s a gun…

After siesta, we walked to my old apartment. But on the way we stopped by the Torre de Oro…

…and got churros.

We also found a park to play in.

My apartment was on the other side of the fairgrounds, which meant that I got to show Pat how far I walked home across an empty lot every night in the dark.

My apartment building.

And the green shade was my window.

The we got dinner and stopped by a tea house before heading to bed.
