Flying Home...

We got up at 5:30 on Monday morning to get to the airport. We dropped off the rental car (where the rental guy had pity on me and helped me carry all my luggage into the airport. Apparently I look ridiculous trying to carry a suitcase, carseat, new carseat in a big cardboard box, two backpacks, a stroller and Gabe...) and checked in for the flight. We made it to the gate and waited for the flight.

Unfortunately, there was a nasty fog in Seattle. So we got to wait. Gabe was completely exhausted. Half the time he was running down the hall running in his “fast green shoes” while yelling “I’m not running into anyone!” The other half of the time he was sobbing so hard because he dropped his muffin that the guy next to me offered him his banana. It was super fun.

After waiting for an hour and still not having any idea when we were leaving, I realized that we were likely going to miss our next flight. So I called the airlines and tried to get us on a later flight, but they didn’t have any seats available. But there was a seat going through Anchorage tomorrow. Since our other option was to be stuck in Seattle until we could possibly get another flight, we chose to postpone until Tuesday. Unfortunately my dear husband had actually taken the day off to spend the day with us and now we weren’t going to be there...

It’s a good thing that Laurie has a flexible job so that she could come pick us up. We went back to her house where both Gabe and I took a nap. Gabe slept for 3.5 hours so clearly he needed it.

Once he was up, we went to play at the park in front of Uncle Matt’s house. Unfortunately Uncle Matt wasn’t there, so that was weird. But he has a really great park...

Then we had dinner with Laurie. Once Nathan got home, he and Gabe played with his remote control helicopter and then they all had a massive nerf gun fight.

Tuesday morning, Laurie took us to the airport and we started the day again.

This time, however, we were able to get home. Yes, we were 30 hours later than we were supposed to and one of our stops included nearly hurricane strength winds, but we made it home. And it’s really good to be home.
