Hawaii Day 8: Kailua

We decided that it the perfect day to go to Kailua.  Josy was sure that we needed to bring the boogie board, so he decided to carry it.

(As a side note, they’re painting the hallways and the elevators in our condo, so it looks lovely...)

When we got to Kailua, I instantly wished that we’d been staying there for the entire trip...

Gabe named his pirate ship Prince Duke in Boots. No idea why... But he spent a long time digging in the sand, trying to get a moat that it could sail in. It also spent a long time washing up on the shore.

I was helping Gabe dig when he suddenly threw the ship at me and yelled “I’ve got to catch some waves!” and grabbed the boogie board.

After a few waves, he declared a “life jacket emergency” and put on a floaty vest for the rest of his time in the water.

After a long time of playing in the water, which was really the perfect beach day, we cleaned up to head to lunch. While we were loading up, a couple of people brought out an octopus that they’d caught.

As a side note, the only reason he isn’t wearing a pirate costume today is because he was wearing his swim suit when we left the house and I packed him a regular outfit, not a pirate outfit. That said, the shirt does have a pirate on it...

After lunch and a car nap while we drove the long way around the island, we had some time to kill, so we stopped by the Aloha Tower to see the iron sided ship. It turns out that it was closed, so this was as close as we got.

Then we picked up bbq and had a picnic on the beach with Nathan and Cassie to watch the sunset.

Nathan decided to do some fun poses for me...

It was a pretty wonderful day, full of lots of beach fun and family time.
